In a significant move to deepen diplomatic relations and strengthen collaboration in critical sectors, the Beninese Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professor Eléonore Yayi Ladekan, has expressed her Ministry’s full support for an exchange of technical professionals between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin.
This commitment was made during a courtesy visit by the Director-General of the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC), Rt. Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub, to the Ministry in Cotonou. Professor Ladekan emphasized that the proposed exchange initiative will not only promote mutual development but also help bridge language barriers and enhance professional collaboration across borders.
“This initiative reflects our collective vision to build stronger ties between our countries. By facilitating the exchange of professionals in fields such as engineering, academics, and scientific research, we are investing in a future of shared growth and regional integration,” she stated.
The Minister further highlighted that the program aligns with broader diplomatic and economic efforts between Nigeria and Benin Republic, underscoring the importance of citizen diplomacy and strategic collaboration in education and professional development.
The NTAC Scheme, established to promote Nigeria’s foreign policy through soft power diplomacy, has over the years deployed thousands of skilled Nigerian volunteers to various countries, including the Republic of Benin. These professionals contribute to social infrastructure, capacity building, and human capital development.
Responding to the Minister’s remarks, the NTAC Director-General, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub, reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to fostering mutual understanding and growth through technical cooperation.
“We are pleased to see Benin Republic’s enthusiasm toward strengthening people-to-people diplomacy. This partnership will serve as a model for regional cooperation and will yield long-term benefits for both nations,” he noted.
This collaborative effort marks a renewed chapter in Nigeria–Benin relations, highlighting a shared commitment to development, education, and regional unity through practical and impactful engagement.
