The Vice President of Nigeria Arrives in Benin Republic for Presidential Inauguration Ceremony Cotonou, 23 May 2026 —
The Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Sen. Kashim Shettima arrived Cotonou ahead of the presidential inauguration ceremony of H.E. Romuald Wadagni, President of the Republic of Benin scheduled for 24th May, 2026.
The Vice President’s visit underscores the longstanding cordial relationship and diplomatic ties between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Republic of Benin, founded on mutual respect, regional cooperation, and shared aspirations for peace, stability, and development within West Africa. The presidential inauguration ceremony is expected to bring together regional leaders, diplomats, and dignitaries in a demonstration of democratic continuity and regional solidarity.
Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Cotonou was established to enhance bilateral relations between Nigeria and Benin Republic. The two neighbouring African countries have since grown steadily in trade and mutual economic development. The Nigeria Embassy handles all diplomatic and consular affairs.
