The Ambassador-designate of Nigeria Visits Troops at Togbin Military Base as Guest Honour of the Chief of Army Staff Sallah Lunch

Cotonou, 28 May 2026 — The Ambassador-designate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Republic of Benin , H.E. Mopelola ADEOLA-IBRAHIIM , alongside staff of the Embassy and NIDO EXCO members, visited Nigerian troops stationed at the Togbin Military Base to participate in the Chief of Army Staff Sallah Lunch with officers and soldiers of Operation ATILEYIN ALAAFIA II.

The event formed part of activities marking this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration, reflecting the Nigerian Army’s tradition of sharing festive moments with troops serving in various operational locations.

The ceremony commenced with an opening prayer delivered by the Chief Imam, setting a solemn gratitude for the gathering.

In his welcome remarks, Lt. Col. A.A. Ikoro described the occasion as a meaningful and pleasant ceremony, emphasizing that the sacrifices and dedication of officers and soldiers remain deeply valued and appreciated.

Speaking on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Col. S.A. Yahaya conveyed goodwill messages and heartfelt felicitations to Muslim officers, soldiers, and their families on the occasion of the Eid-al-Adha celebration. He noted that the this is a ritual observed by the Chief of Army Staff during festive periods such as Salah and Christmas.

He commended the officers and soldiers of Operation ATILEYIN ALAAFIA II for their courage, professionalism, obedience, and unwavering commitment to duty in safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He further acknowledged their sacrifices and resilience in addressing security threats and maintaining peace and stability.

Addressing the troops, Ambassador Mopelola ADEOLA-IBRAHIM congratulated the officers and soldiers and wished them continued success in their service to the nation. She noted that donations had been brought from the Embassy to support and encourage the troops during the festive period as a token of appreciation for their sacrifices and commitment.

The Ambassador expressed profound gratitude for their service, stating that the gesture represented a sincere expression of appreciation from a grateful nation and family. She encouraged the troops to remain vigilant, uphold the highest standards of professionalism, and remember that they carry the image, honour, and reputation of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the discharge of their responsibilities.

The event concluded with an interactive session between the Ambassador and the troops before joining officers and soldiers for a group photograph to commemorate the occasion.
