The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Cotonou formally welcomed Her Excellency, Ambassador Mopelola Adeola-Ibrahim, who officially resumed duty as Ambassador on 22 May 2026. Her Excellency was warmly received by Embassy staff, representatives of the Nigerian International School (NIS), the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) Benin Chapter, and the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation Women Wing (NIDOWIB), all of whom expressed appreciation and pledged their support and cooperation during her tenure.









In her address, Her Excellency first expressed gratitude to Almighty God and conveyed appreciation to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, H.E. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the confidence reposed in her through the appointment. She assured attendees of her commitment to diligent service and pledged not to disappoint in the discharge of her responsibilities. Ambassador Mopelola further appreciated Nigerians residing in the Republic of Benin for their resilience, contributions, and continued representation of Nigeria, describing them as the “true ambassadors” of the nation. She encouraged members of the Nigerian community to continue upholding values that promote unity, integrity, and national pride while keeping the Nigerian flag flying high. Representatives of the various groups present reaffirmed their readiness to work closely with the Embassy in advancing the welfare of Nigerians and strengthening community relations.
